Bowl Game Betting: Rose Bowl Preview - Rose Bowl logo

Other than the BCS National Championship Game, there is simply no better bowl matchup this season and Wisconsin vs. Texas Christian in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., on New Year’s Day. TCU opened as the 3-point favorite on Bodog’s NCAA football odds and there will be live play-by-play betting available.

No. 4 Wisconsin (11-1) makes its first trip to Pasadena in 11 seasons, while No. 3 TCU (12-0) becomes the first team from a non-power conference in the BCS era to play in the Rose Bowl. Both teams scored 520 points, tying for fourth nationally.

The main story line would be the Badgers’ overwhelming size on their offensive line and their power running attack against TCU’s defensive speed. The Horned Frogs are ranked No. 1 in total defense, scoring defense and pass defense, allowing only 215 yards a game, nearly 35 less than second-ranked Ohio State. Wisconsin’s average offensive lineman stands 6 feet 5 inches and weighs more than 320 pounds.

In one game against Michigan this year, UW threw the ball just once in the second half and just ground down the Wolverines. Wisconsin’s 45.2 points a game average in the Big Ten is the second-highest total in league history. During the Badgers’ current seven-game winning streak, they have had 83- and 70-point outbursts and have scored at least 31 points in each game. In the last four games, Montee Ball, averaged 23 carries and 161 yards, with 13 TDs; James White averaged 21 carries and 153 yards over the last three games; and John Clay, the star of the team, had some injury problems at the end of the year but exceeded 100 yards in six of the first seven games this year.

The Wisconsin defense will see the best quarterback it has seen all year in TCU’s Andy Dalton, who has completed 66.2% of his passes for 2,638 yards with 26 TD passes and six interceptions. But the Frogs are balanced, averaging 230 yards per game through the air and 262 on the ground. Ed Wesley paces the nation's 12th-ranked rushing attack with 1,065 yards, while Matthew Tucker ran for 694. From 2002 on, TCU is 15-3 against teams from conferences with automatic BCS bids.
